November Charity Spotlight: Empowering Lives Beyond Crisis with DASH
As part of Beechwood Mortgages’ 25 Years : 12 Charities : 1 Mission campaign, we’re proud to support DASH (Domestic Abuse Stops Here) as our charity partner for November. For more than 45 years, DASH has provided vital support to people affected by domestic abuse across East Berkshire and South Bucks. Read on to discover more about DASH’s essential work, the services they provide and how they help individuals and families move beyond crisis towards safer, more hopeful futures.
More Than Just Shelter
Domestic abuse is a complex issue, and DASH understands that overcoming it requires more than just a safe place to sleep. Their team works tirelessly to empower those they support, helping them live a life beyond crisis and ensuring their voices are heard.
DASH offers a comprehensive suite of specialist services for individuals experiencing domestic abuse, including those facing overlapping challenges such as mental health issues, modern slavery, immigration hurdles, trafficking, or homelessness.
How DASH makes a difference:
Advocacy and Practical Support: DASH speaks up for victims, advocating on their behalf with police, housing teams, and social care. They assist with navigating the legal system, including helping victims access free legal advice, obtain injunctions, and providing vital support during court appearances, including arranging screens and video links.
Safety and Stabilisation: To help survivors feel safer in their own homes, the team provides essential safety devices and sources donations to help brighten the daily lives of those they support.
Breaking the Cycle: Through dedicated programs, DASH helps women, men, and children recognise tactics of abuse, offering the tools and emotional support needed to break the cycle and rebuild their lives.
Emergency Refuge: DASH operates three refuges across Berkshire, providing sanctuary and emergency accommodation for up to 14 women (with or without children) at any given time.
